iProtest 2

I again went to protest in front of Chinese mission, 35th street between 1st and 2nd ave. There were about 50 people, mostly of Burmese people. I found out about the protest on Facebook, and it was advertised that about 500 protesters would be present. In any case, the event was a great boycott to China's Olympics 2008. One of the protesters stated that China's Olympics will now be referred to as "Blood Olympics" as long as China supports Burma military. All protesters were also encouraged to collect pledges from people to boycott China's Olympics. And the boycott pledges will then be presented to Chinese mission.

Here are my ideas and thoughts.

First of all, Chinese government will not put themselves into a spotlight, condemning the Burmese military crackdown on the protesters. Why? Because of June 4, Tiananmen Square massacre. Many people have forgotten about this massacre and Chinese government does not want people to reconnect with the darkness! And the Chinese government knows that any "active" actions such as sanctioning Burma will flashback people to June 4 TS massacre, and this will raise angers and controversies among the Chinese. Chinese people (most likely from business sectors) will then criticize the government for how they had killed their own people and now are interfering with economic function. So, this is a lost lost situation for China.

However, if we can get the UN and other power nations to pressure on China, maybe we will see the change. However, to get to that point, we need supports from a lot a lot of people. There are several anti-China communities such as Tibetans, Taiwanese and Hong Kongnese. So, what Burmese people should do is to get those communities into the protest and boycott for China's Olympics.

Also, Burmese people should try to get many high school and college professors and students involved in this boycott. You probably know that they make up a large part of New York City, and most of them really care about human rights issue.

Songs dedicated to the Burmese freedom fighters by YouTubers

The world has been watching what is going on in Burma. The anger was ignited when the military started to fire on peaceful protesters. Without much help from other countries, and UN, we all just watched Burma's people being shot, beaten and killed on YouTube. Escalating anguish and growing concerns led a lot of YouTubers to make videos, supporting the protests in Burma. Aside from uploading footages of brutal regime acts and torturing scenes, a lot of people made commentary videos, music videos, and appeal videos. I have tried many YouTubers to channel people's people on Burma and the issues in the country. Here are some of the videos.

iProtest

Today, I went to protest in front of the UN by the 47th and 1st ave. There were about 30 people, including monks. We shouted slogans both in Burmese and English, and also sang student songs. The slogans are..

"Free Free.... Free Burma"
"Save Save ..... Save Burma"
"Stop Stop..... Killing Monks"
"UN UN...... Take Actions, Take Actions"
"China Russia..... Killing Burma"

Other than that, I have been obsessively on YouTube, CNN, BBC, VOA, and Google and checking news update on Burma. I watched the protesting monks and people on YouTube countless times and then emotional when they are being shot and killed. This picture made me so mad that I wish I could punch the head of those junta.

I also saw the pictures of the lady Suu Kyi today on news. She looks older and pale. She was not wearing any makeup or lipstick. She looked deeply sad and her smile was not a sincere happy smile. I can tell that UN guy did not accomplish anything in Burma. The junta is a master at manipulating the issues, and I believe the UN guy was caught in trap. What I think should happen is that the UN should send peace keepers in Burma around the year. Also, the UN guy should have arranged the meeting with the lady and the junta in his presence.

This is my impression on this UN organization - UN was founded to resolve issues within or between countries through diplomacy so that no countries had to go to war. Unfortunately, the UN is powerless as to what they can do to resolve problems because the UN is a mere puppet of China, Russia, France, UK and US. To date, UN has done nothing significant to promote world peace. And I personally start to question why this even still exists. I do not mean to be so rude. But, the UN has failed to do many things that people are expected them of. For example, UN had no role and power in preventing the Iraq war. UN failed to prevent genocide in Darfur.

What we really need is the people, not the UN. We need the people of the world to come together to change the world we live in. For example, people's efforts to save Katrina victims were impressive. Tsunami relief effort was a good example of how people come together to help the poor, and unfortunate.

Do you think UN can save Burma?
